Third birthday

To Ella, On Your Third Birthday

To Ella,

Wow, am I one proud mum!  Ella, you are one brilliant little three year old!

I can hardly believe it’s been three years since you made me a mum, though I can also barely remember my life without you as part of it.  You’ve changed so much over the past year.  You’re really growing up and are showing really grown up characteristics like empathy, patience (sometimes!), and putting others first.

You are at an age where you know what you want.  You can’t have it all the time (especially if it’s chocolate for breakfast!), which you sometimes struggle with.  You know what you want to wear, where you want to go, what you want to eat!  You are definitely opinionated!  You adore being around others, especially other children, and get really upset when you have to leave their company.  You are a sociable little lady, though it does take you a little while to warm up.  You tend to hide behind my legs, fingers in mouth, until you feel comfortable to get stuck in.

Sienna One Year

To Sienna, On Your First Birthday

To Sienna,

My little beauty, I can not believe you are already a year old!!!  Where has that year gone?!

I vividly remember the day you were born like it was yesterday, and the amazing feeling of lying skin-to-skin with you.  I felt so incredibly bonded to you, and still do.  We have a special relationship you and I.  From only days old, you struggled to settle for anyone but me.  You spent a lot of time in my arms, while you were still light enough to hold for any length of time.  I would rock you back and forth and you found a way of nuzzling in to my chest for comfort.  The hours spent constantly feeding, chaining me to the sofa!  Those early weeks are slowly fading from my memory, but I never want to forget how you wanted to be nowhere but with me.  Especially when you’re a teenager and the opposite will be true!

2016 Goals

My Goals for 2016 – Finding Contentment

I’m not really a one for ‘resolutions’ as such.  But I do love the opportunity that a new year represents.  A chance to maybe do things a little differently, or continue with things that have worked well in the previous year.  It gives us chance to reflect on our lives and highlight areas that, in improving, might make us more content.

I think that is what my goals for this year are focused on – contentment.  I have never really suffered with anxiety before the last year, and it is horrible!  I want to shake it, and feel content and peaceful.  I know it’s a big ask, but if I can start to make little steps towards that, then that’s better than nothing.

My Favourite Moments

There are so many amazing moments in life. I don’t mean days or weeks. I mean moments. A few minutes or hours at most. Those moments we’ll never forget. That we look back on with so much fondness.

I thought I’d list 10 of the favourite moments of my life so far. I’ve probably missed some out and may need to do a follow up at some point!! They are in chronological order, but the first is from when I was 18. I’m sure I had many more before then, but maybe my memory of them is too blurry!

To Ella, On Your Second Birthday

To Ella,

So you’ve now been here a whole two years!!!

It’s amazing how much you can change in a year. There’s the obvious physical things, taller, stronger, longer hair, steady on your feet, nearly all of your teeth (finally!).

But then there’s all the developmental stuff that we’ve seen snowball this past year. You can now say loads of words. You know the names of at least 20 different animals, and can point them out in books. You have a few sentences you can say, like ‘daddy’s gone to work’!  While there’s loads of words you can say, there’s also the ones that only me and your dad can decipher!

Sienna’s Birth Story

My due date was 8th May.  As I suspected it might, the day came and passed.  As did the next day, and the next!

At 11 days overdue, I was booked in for induction.  I never actually thought I’d get to the stage of being induced, and had completely dismissed that it might actually happen.  Yet, at 12pm on Tuesday 19th May, myself and Sean were in Tesco down the road from the hospital stocking up on supplies to get us through the process.  I walked round Tesco like a zombie, not quite getting my head round that I was heading in to be induced.

A Little Room for a Little Girl

When we found out I was pregnant with our second baby (which is now due any day!), one of the first things we started thinking about was whether we wanted to move house to create more room.  We live in a standard 3 bed semi.  Meaning there are two bedrooms of similar size, and a much smaller ‘box’ room.

Having thought about it, we realised we had plenty of room for two kids, and that we’re not ready to leave this house behind yet.  So, the next decision was how we were going to organise sleeping arrangements!

This Pregnancy

Today I hit 36 weeks pregnant.  Which means one more week until I’m full term, and four weeks until due date.  Which means the end is nearing!

It’s no secret that pregnancy isn’t for me.  I hate to be a killjoy.  I’d love so much to be one of those women who bloom and enjoy every day of their pregnancy.  But I’m not.  And this second pregnancy I’ve found particularly hard.  I’ve not had to go through any kind of extreme illness or difficulty with it, though there has been the odd issue.  I just really don’t think it suits me!  I like being up and active and doing stuff.  The exhaustion wears me down mentally as much as it does physically.  And this time I feel more exhausted than ever!

Turning Thirty!

So today I turn 30!!

I didn’t really know how I’d feel about turning 30, but really I feel like it’s just another birthday, taking me a year on in my life!  And I’m definitely looking forward to what my thirties have in store for me!

My twenties have been pretty damn good!  I guess going in to the next decade is a reason to reflect on the one before.  So, here goes…!!

I’m not really someone who has their life planned out.  I’m more of a ‘go with the flow’ type.  I didn’t have any expectations of where I would be by the end of my twenties.  I would have suspected that I would have at least one child, maybe two, so not too far off the mark, with number two due in a matter of weeks.

The Year That Was…2014!!

This is going to be my last post of the year, as we’re packing up to head to the Isle of Man tonight for the festive period!

So, I thought I’d end the year with a bit of recap of what went on!

I’ve just had a quick look back at how the year started with the posts on my blog.  It’s crazy to see how Ella has turned from a baby in to a toddler this year.  Last Christmas, I was still technically in maternity leave.  Sounds crazy when I think I’ll be back on it in a few months!
