My Favourite Things….(March ’16)

Wow, did March come and go fast!  I love March.  It’s possibly my favourite month, though I do really love the summer months too.  March starts to promise that summer is on the way.  You get the odd nice day, where you don’t need a coat, the daffs are out, and, it’s my birthday!!

So, here are some of the things I loved in March…

Loreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay Dry Shampoo

I love dry shampoo.  I usually wash my hair every other day, but some times don’t get chance* (*can’t be bothered), and other times need something to make it look a bit more presentable in between washes.  I’ve always used Batiste, the king of dry shampoos.  I bought some shampoo and conditioner from Boots the other day, and there was a 3 for 2 offer on.  So, I decided to give this dry shampoo a go for a change.  I won’t be going back (sorry Batiste!).

My Favourite Things….(February 2016)

Time for my second monthly round-up of some of the things I’ve been loving in the past month!

February was a busy one for us – really busy!  We moved house.  It kind of felt like it suddenly crept up on us, and I was frantically packing our old house up.  Then the date got moved and things felt an awful lot easier!  We did the move in two hours, with the help of strong family hands.  And we are now settled in our new home and loving it.  So, I’m definitely loving our new house!

A Little Room for a Little Girl

When we found out I was pregnant with our second baby (which is now due any day!), one of the first things we started thinking about was whether we wanted to move house to create more room.  We live in a standard 3 bed semi.  Meaning there are two bedrooms of similar size, and a much smaller ‘box’ room.

Having thought about it, we realised we had plenty of room for two kids, and that we’re not ready to leave this house behind yet.  So, the next decision was how we were going to organise sleeping arrangements!

The Move From Cot to Bed – With The HelloHome StarBright Toddler Bed

I’d always thought Ella would be at least two when we made the move from cot to bed.  Not least because her younger sibling will be born any day now and I didn’t want things to change too much all at once!!  Plus, I was thinking of how much sleep I’d be getting if the move didn’t go so well!

But, at 21 months, Ella had other ideas!  She was sleeping so poorly in her cot, there didn’t seem to be much to lose in making the move, in the hope it would help her sleep.

The Ordinary Moments #9 – Musicality

I’ve always been fairly musical.  I started learning the piano when I was ten, and pretty much stopped playing when I got my grade 8 when I was 17!  I got my own electric piano when I was 25 and tried to get back in to it, playing modern music.  I’m definitely nowhere near as good as I used to be!  And for the last year and a half, the piano has lived upstairs in my office and has gone unplayed!

Our lounge redesign gave us a bit of space back and we decided last week that the piano should come back down, not least because it looks good and provides us with a shelf, so I’ve been trying to get back in to playing, downloading some sheet music for recent songs like Hozier’s Take Me To Church.  It’s been fun to get back in to it, just need to keep it up now!

The Ordinary Moments #7 – Changing Rooms

This pregnancy really made us re-evaluate our home.  Do we have enough space for another child?  Will I have to lose my office for it to be a bedroom?  Could they share a room?

We started looking at bigger houses, half-heartedly, out of interest.  And it made us realise, we’re absolutely fine where we are.  There’s three bedrooms, which is more than enough for a family of 4!  But since buying our house, we’ve not really made it ‘ours’ enough.  We’ve painted and added in a few touches.  But anyone will know that money isn’t free flowing when you first buy a house.  And coming from furnished rented accommodation meant we really were starting from scratch with furniture, etc.  Much of it has been second hand and was supposed to be a stop gap.  Two years later and it was still in the house….!!!
