I’ve Stopped Eating Sugar

Ok, so the title is a little misleading.  I kind of have and kind of haven’t stopped eating sugar.  But I have made some big changes, and I thought I’d tell you about them!

I’ve always liked setting myself little challenges.  I love the idea of a monthly challenge, and have done them in the past.  But, have lagged a bit recently with ‘challenge Sam’!!  I noticed that I was slowly eating more and more sugar.  I was craving it.  I don’t get enough sleep, work hard, exercise, mother, and all that, and I just felt exhausted all the time and was reaching for the easiest thing to give me a boost – sugar!

Where Have I Been?

This blog has been pretty quiet over the last few months.  I thought I’d be able to pick it back up a bit more now Ella is at preschool and I have my non-working mornings to myself, while Sienna naps, before we head to pick up Ella.

But those mornings have been spent working.  I’m doing a big push on my business at the moment.  I’ve always worked towards the ‘work less for more’ approach with my business.  I want to spend time with the girls while they are young, but I also want my business to be a ‘success’ and for me to be a key person of influence in my industry.  And this, of course, does require some time.  I work two full days a week typically.  Some weeks, I work more and Sienna goes for an extra day to nursery, and Ella spends the afternoon after pre-school at nursery too.  But mostly, I work Tuesdays and Thursdays.  And the rest of the week I play at being a mum!

A Little Bit of Life Lately and A Need to Write

I haven’t written as much on my blog lately.  I go through weeks on end where I do three posts a week.  Then suddenly, that flow just stops.  Recently, the flow has stopped.  And it’s not really because I haven’t wanted to.  I think it’s come more down to my own organisation and time management.  So, I felt the need today to just write, and I love a good life lately, brain dump kind of post, so here goes…!

I think one of the main reasons I’m not writing so much at the moment is that, I tend to write a blog post on the days I don’t have the girls.  That’s generally Tuesdays and Thursdays, where I crack on with my business, Sam Flynn Social Media.  Usually, I’d find half an hour in the day to write a blog post for Life of Mum.  But recently, I’ve been flat out on the business.  Not in a ‘I’ve got so much work on and I’m making millions’ kind of way.  I wish!  Recently returning back to work after having time off with Sienna, means I’ve really got to get my name back out there and business flowing back in.  It’s hard work!  I’m creating lots of workshops and online content to push, as this naturally leads to more enquiries for inhouse training, as well as creating things I can sell too.  So, I’m just not finding as much time in my working day to blog.  My business is important to me, and I really want to get it back to where it was.  And I know I will.  The trouble is, when you work for someone else, you return from maternity leave maybe needing a bit of time to get used to the working world again, and managing it with sleep deprivation thrown in, but you receive a wage regardless.  I don’t get paid unless I get work in!  So, that’s what I’m focusing on right now!

International Women's Day

I Am Woman

Today is International Women’s Day. A day I well and truly respect and have been part of in previous years. It still makes me so sad to think of what women throughout the world have to endure because of their gender.  Culturally, we are so lucky as women that, while we may not quite be at equality in terms of pay and career, we mostly do not have to suffer physically due to our gender, or be subjected to horrific sexual degradation or mutilation.  I can’t even imagine some of the things young women throughout the world have to experience. We have a long way to come as a gender, which is why I think global events like International Women’s Day are so important.
