Sometimes, it’s too easy to look for the sun. Especially when the weather is as grim as it is right now (who stole Spring?!). We often dream about heading to Spain or Portugal, getting a bit of heat on our faces and sun on our backs. But all too often, once we’re there, it’s the exploring we enjoy more.
I love that holidaying in Europe gives you a bit of both. There’s the promise of all day sun in the Mediterranean. And then there’s the beautiful cities to explore too – Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, and so, so many more.
We’ve been on a few holidays in Europe now. Pre-kids, me and Sean took a long weekend in Rome to celebrate his 30th birthday. It was amazing! Rome is such a beautiful city, the architecture is immense, and round every corner is a piece of Roman history. I can’t wait to go back!
I’ve also been on hen dos in Amsterdam – two of them now! It’s my favourite place to go for a hen do! It’s such a vibrant city, a party city, a fun time city, and a quite chilled out one too, if you know what I mean!! Me and Sean have had it in our plans to go to Amsterdam for ages! We really need to get it sorted, as Sean has never been and I know he’d absolutely love it. Plus, it would be great to do more of the touristy stuff that you don’t necessarily do when on a hen do.
I went to Paris when I was 19, with my family, for a few days. Another stunner of a city, and one I definitely want to go back to with Sean (this list is getting quite long now isn’t it!!). I think Paris is the epitome of romance. The culture, the architecture, the attractions, all shout romance. A special anniversary trip to Paris would be amazing. We’re seven years married in August. I’m sure a trip to Paris would help ensure there’s no itchiness breaking out!!!
And then there’s the more typical sunshine holidays. Me and Sean have done a few of the Canary Islands, before the girls came along. Our first holiday together was to Gran Canaria, and we’ve also been to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. In fact, we spent two weeks over Christmas in Lanzarote. It was a strange Christmas in the sun, but so good to get away when the weather is so cold back home.
We also took a mini ‘babymoon’ to Portugal when I was pregnant with Ella. And, when I was in the early weeks of my pregnancy with Sienna, we had our first family holiday abroad in Spain. My mum and stepdad came along too. It was so nice to have a family holiday, though slightly marred by morning sickness and exhaustion!!
I’m excited for future holidays in Europe. Both those of the romantic mini-break, just us two. And for family ones too. I think doing caravan holidays in the UK has opened our eyes somewhat to what makes a holiday for the girls. It’s the activities. It’s being able to run around on your doorstep. And for us, it’s being able to put the girls in bed without having to camp out in a hotel bathroom! I love the idea of a Yelloh! Village holiday for future European family breaks. The open-air hotel approach would definitely suit us, and the girls even more so!
So, if this weather keeps on as it is, I think it’s going to be time to get booking!!
