Wow! 1 already! You have definitely given me the fastest, and the best, year of my life!
Thank you for being such a mini joy! From day one, you have been a great baby. You are a happy little girl, full of smiles and giggles that are definitely infectious. I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to feel down when you are around.
My love for you has definitely grown over the year. Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly squeeze any more love in my heart, you find a little gap to add some more!
It feels like you’ve always been here. It’s just so ‘normal’ for me to be your mum. Yes it’s a joy and a blessing, but I also feel it was what I was always meant to do. Me and you definitely click. We’ve got a great bond, and I like to think we understand each other.
Every week of this year has seen a change in you and your development. You are now almost walking. You can take tiny weeny steps on your own, before you resort back to your speedy way of getting round – crawling! You want to be on your feet permanently though and love cruising round the furniture! Your favourite toys are those you can play with stood up. And you adore the car your Auntie Jodie and Uncle Ste got you for your birthday (which we let you open early!). You’re sat in it at every opportunity.
You can now say a few words (though I don’t think you know what they mean!). You say ‘hiya’ and ‘yeah’ and ‘no’, as well as ‘mama’ and ‘dada’. And, a couple of weeks a go, clear as day, you said ‘Ned’ when holding Ned’s toy!
You love your food! Your favourite are most fruits, especially bananas, strawberries and blueberries, and spuds and cheese!
You’re a little adventurer. You’re not happy sat still. You want to be off exploring. And finding new things to put in your mouth! Just this week you took a liking to grit sand. You like the odd cuddle, especially if you’re tired or you’ve hurt yourself. But otherwise, you fight cuddles so you can go off doing your own thing.
You are very independent. You don’t cling to me, though I am your first option when you hurt yourself or don’t feel well. You like meeting new people and discovering new things. You definitely prefer to be outdoors than in!
You have made me broody for more children, from the moment you were born. I don’t plan for you to be an only child. So it’s lovely to have this time when it’s just you! And I know you’ll be a fab older sister!
So, Ella, without trying to sound cheesy (though I don’t think I’ve really managed to avoid that so far!), I really hope your second year on planet earth is as happy as the first. That you continue to explore the world around you with fascination. And I can’t wait for all the memories we’ll create with you this year, and the next and the next, and many more years to come.
I love you
