One Big Round Crochet Blanket and Dealing With Exhaustion

I started crocheting when I was pregnant with Sienna.  I saw another blogger mention that they really enjoyed doing it, and I thought I’d give it a go, never really thinking I’d keep it up.  But it really helped me through my pregnancy.  I picked up every bug going when I was pregnant, and crochet gave me something to do without having to be up and about (I’m terrible at sitting still!).

I learnt through YouTube, started buying crochet magazines, and really got in to making different things.  I made scarves, hats, cushion covers, baby blankets, baby booties, baby hats, bunting, toddler boy’s cardigans, toddler girl’s cardigans, Spring wreaths, and essentially created something crochet for every family birthday and new arrivals of friends!  Here’s a little sneak at some of the stuff I’ve made:

2016 Goals

My Goals for 2016 – Finding Contentment

I’m not really a one for ‘resolutions’ as such.  But I do love the opportunity that a new year represents.  A chance to maybe do things a little differently, or continue with things that have worked well in the previous year.  It gives us chance to reflect on our lives and highlight areas that, in improving, might make us more content.

I think that is what my goals for this year are focused on – contentment.  I have never really suffered with anxiety before the last year, and it is horrible!  I want to shake it, and feel content and peaceful.  I know it’s a big ask, but if I can start to make little steps towards that, then that’s better than nothing.

Changing Seasons

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I always feel a bit funny when the seasons change. I’m sure there’s some spiritual-type explanation about the moon and such like!

As we move in to Autumn, I just feel exhausted.  I always feel tired, as you do with a baby and a toddler. But at the moment, it’s different. Like I feel exhausted throughout my body. I don’t want to do anything. I kind of just want to hibernate.

I don’t want to cook. In fact, the thought of cooking is filling me with dread! I want to just eat something comforting and carby, like buttery toast, for every meal! I usually really suffer with cabin fever, but right now I don’t want to go anywhere.

The Ordinary Moments #31 – The Evening

My evenings are really important to me. Since Ella was about 6 weeks old, she’d go up to bed about 7pm and we’d have the evenings to ourselves. She’s been in bed around that time, and by 7.30 at the latest, since then, apart from the odd time we’re late home or on holiday. She doesn’t always go straight to sleep, depending on her mood and how tired she is. But mostly, she’s not bad for staying in bed when she first goes.

When Sienna was born, our evenings were no longer ours. My evening especially, as Sienna would spend most of the evening on the boob in her first few weeks. She seems a fussier baby than Ella was, so even when she stopped the constant feeding, I’d spend the evenings trying to settle her, rocking her in my arms or jiggling the pram.

A Little Room for a Little Girl

When we found out I was pregnant with our second baby (which is now due any day!), one of the first things we started thinking about was whether we wanted to move house to create more room.  We live in a standard 3 bed semi.  Meaning there are two bedrooms of similar size, and a much smaller ‘box’ room.

Having thought about it, we realised we had plenty of room for two kids, and that we’re not ready to leave this house behind yet.  So, the next decision was how we were going to organise sleeping arrangements!

Turning Thirty!

So today I turn 30!!

I didn’t really know how I’d feel about turning 30, but really I feel like it’s just another birthday, taking me a year on in my life!  And I’m definitely looking forward to what my thirties have in store for me!

My twenties have been pretty damn good!  I guess going in to the next decade is a reason to reflect on the one before.  So, here goes…!!

I’m not really someone who has their life planned out.  I’m more of a ‘go with the flow’ type.  I didn’t have any expectations of where I would be by the end of my twenties.  I would have suspected that I would have at least one child, maybe two, so not too far off the mark, with number two due in a matter of weeks.

Why You Should Take Up Crochet!

I’ve been a crocheter now for about 4 months, and it’s really taken me by surprise!

I’m not a very crafty person (or at least I didn’t think I was!).  I don’t bake, and I definitely don’t make!  But reading a post from a fellow blogger (Emma who blogs at Raising Bears!), who is the same age as me (pushing 30!), about how she has taken up crochet and loves it, got me thinking!  I’ve always thought of things like crochet and knitting as something the older generation do.  But actually, there seems to be a load of us young ones (I’m still in my twenties ya know!  Just!!) taking up these crafts!
