Snapchat

Beginner’s Guide to Snapchat for Bloggers

I’ve been using Snapchat for a couple of months now, and absolutely loving it!!!  I really did discount it at first as something for the young ‘uns!!!  But then I realised, firstly that I am still pretty young.  Or at least I feel like I am, so that’s enough for me!!  And secondly, that Snapchat offers a lot of things that other social media platforms don’t.  It’s a lot more ‘raw’ than other platforms.  It’s all run through your smartphone (or tablet) and you can only take pictures through your phone.  So, there’s no need for fancy cameras or editing software.  There’s a real authenticity to it as a platform.

Getting Your Toddler To Stay In Their Bed [VIDEO]

Ella moved from a cot to a toddler bed when she was 19 months old.  She was struggling to sleep all her night in her cot.  If we left her in there, she’d be awake for hours.  But if we took her out and put her in the spare bed, she’d settle straight away.  So, we decided she was ready for the big move!

The first couple of nights, she did great and mostly stayed in bed.  Then the novelty wore off and she realised she could get up and out for bed!  We implemented a technique that worked really well.  In fact, we still use it now with her at 2 years 10 months, if she gets out of her bed on the odd occasion.

Siblings May

Siblings (May ’16)

So, this is the 11th month of writing these siblings posts.  Which means we are approaching Sienna’s first birthday.  In fact, it’s in a matter of days.  I can’t believe she’s going to be one!  I’m sure I still have a baby.  Well, I know I still have a baby.  She’s definitely not a toddler yet, as she’s barely cruising.  While she loves to be on her feet, crawling is still her main mode of transport!

The girls’ relationship is closer once again.  There are so many giggles between the two of them.  Sienna just seems to find Ella hysterical.  Ella doesn’t have to do much to stir up a belly laugh from Sienna!  We’ve recently stopped using a bath seat for Sienna in the bath, and it’s made a big difference to bathtime.  They seem to interact so much more without the barrier of the seat.  And every bath time is now fifteen minutes filled with giggles from both of them.

Natalia Radiance Replenish

Natalia Radiance Replenish Skincare Range – Review

Since I’ve had my girls, I’ve definitely noticed a change in my skin.  It’s without a doubt more dehydrated, and suffers from dry patches.  And it’s duller too (which may be due to the sleep deprivation!!).  So, I was really pleased to try out the Natalia Radiance Replenish skincare range.

The Radiance Replenish range includes Clarifying Facial Cleanser, Enriching Facial Moisturiser, and Refining Facial Exfoliator.  The products were developed from the results of surveys of pregnant women and new mums (me included!!).  They aim to beat the dryness and dehydration that came through as one of the big issues in the survey.  All three products smell amazing!!  Using them daily reminds me of having a facial and that typical spa scent of natural oils and relaxation!  The products are hand blended and are made with 100% natural ingredients, so are completely kind to the skin.  These products are designed to be used during pregnancy and beyond.

Sunny Days and Sick Bugs

I’ve been craving the sun.  I think the sun gives everyone that boost of energy after what feels like a really long winter.  And, last weekend, the sun came.  Finally!!!!

But, we couldn’t really enjoy it.  On Friday night, Ella started throwing up.  She’s thrown up in her bed before, a one off incident, and I was hoping we’d have the same again, and she’d be back to sleep and up the next day as if nothing had happened.  Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.  She was sick throughout the night.  She slept by my side while Sean slept in the spare room.  And I only half dozed all night, waiting for the sound of her wretching to throw the bucket beneath her.  It actually didn’t seem to bother her greatly at first.  At one point, she started asking me what my favourite animal was, and what did I think daddy’s favourite animal was!  And going on about our trip to the zoo and the animals we saw!  Towards the end of the night, she was exhausted and weak and upset at being sick.

Mission Sleep Update – My Baby Can Sleep Through The Night

About a month ago, I wrote about how I was on a mission to get more sleep.  I gave myself a deadline of Sienna turning one, which happens in a mere two weeks time (wahhhh!!!).

So, I thought I’d do a little update on where we’re at.

Well, I’m super pleased to say that things have VASTLY improved on the sleep front.  Sienna has slept through a good number of times now.  Sometimes, she has woken at around 10pm.  But she has also managed full sleep throughs, from going to bed to getting up (or at the very least waking up and not needing us to go in to her).

DLX 5

Trespass Bravo DLX Waterproof Jacket – Review

One thing you can’t be when you have a dog, is a fair weather walker!!  Come rain or shine, Ned wants to get out.  So, a good waterproof jacket is a must.

The Bravo Women’s DLX Waterproof jacket from Trespass is perfect for a soggy dog walk, and a not so soggy one too!  Much as I’m looking forward to the days of walking Ned with a t-shirt on and no coat, we seem a long way from it yet.  Since receiving the DLX jacket, it’s seen me through every dog walk!  One of the things that makes it perfect for me, is the number of pockets.  I need space for poo bags, house keys, my phone (to take snaps for Snapchat along the way!), Ned’s ball for when we get to the park, tissues to wipe little girls’ noses, and sometimes my good camera too if I want to take a few shots for the blog!  The Bravo DLX offers plenty of room for all this, with two water repellent zip pockets, and two inner pockets.

me and mine

Me and Mine (April ’16)

At the start of the year, I posted our first me and mine post of 2016.  I talked about how rubbish I was at keeping up with it last year, and that I’d be doing my best to capture us as a family every month.

And…this is my second me and mine of the year!!  So, that plan didn’t really work!  But, I decided to go ahead and duck in when I want to, rather than be under pressure to get pictures of us together every month.  Every few months is better than not at all!

Yesterday, we were all ready to head off to a party to celebrate our niece’s first Holy Communion.  I was getting the camera ready to take, and thought it would be a good opportunity to get a few pics of us all.  So, I set the tripod up in the kitchen, and that’s what we did!  We also captured a few selfie style ones on the walk home through the park.  I’m so glad I decided to capture them.

Holidaying in Europe and Our Future Dreams

Sometimes, it’s too easy to look for the sun.  Especially when the weather is as grim as it is right now (who stole Spring?!).  We often dream about heading to Spain or Portugal, getting a bit of heat on our faces and sun on our backs.  But all too often, once we’re there, it’s the exploring we enjoy more.

I love that holidaying in Europe gives you a bit of both.  There’s the promise of all day sun in the Mediterranean.  And then there’s the beautiful cities to explore too – Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, and so, so many more.

A Little Bit of Life Lately and A Need to Write

I haven’t written as much on my blog lately.  I go through weeks on end where I do three posts a week.  Then suddenly, that flow just stops.  Recently, the flow has stopped.  And it’s not really because I haven’t wanted to.  I think it’s come more down to my own organisation and time management.  So, I felt the need today to just write, and I love a good life lately, brain dump kind of post, so here goes…!

I think one of the main reasons I’m not writing so much at the moment is that, I tend to write a blog post on the days I don’t have the girls.  That’s generally Tuesdays and Thursdays, where I crack on with my business, Sam Flynn Social Media.  Usually, I’d find half an hour in the day to write a blog post for Life of Mum.  But recently, I’ve been flat out on the business.  Not in a ‘I’ve got so much work on and I’m making millions’ kind of way.  I wish!  Recently returning back to work after having time off with Sienna, means I’ve really got to get my name back out there and business flowing back in.  It’s hard work!  I’m creating lots of workshops and online content to push, as this naturally leads to more enquiries for inhouse training, as well as creating things I can sell too.  So, I’m just not finding as much time in my working day to blog.  My business is important to me, and I really want to get it back to where it was.  And I know I will.  The trouble is, when you work for someone else, you return from maternity leave maybe needing a bit of time to get used to the working world again, and managing it with sleep deprivation thrown in, but you receive a wage regardless.  I don’t get paid unless I get work in!  So, that’s what I’m focusing on right now!
