The Day Sienna Fell Down The Stairs

I remember the day before Ella turned two.  And she ran out in to a busy road.  Thankfully, nothing happened, the traffic stopped, but it took me a while to calm down.  I blogged about it (you can read the post here) and it really helped me to get over what happened, getting it down in writing.

Yesterday, something happened that I similarly feel the need to release as it is playing on my mind A LOT!

In our old house, we never bothered with stair gates when Ella was a little explorer.  The stairs were in our lounge area, so we could pretty much see when she was heading up.  And, until we thought she was confident enough, we would go up with her, holding her hand or standing behind her ready to catch.  We didn’t have a stair gate at the top either.  It just wouldn’t fit on our banister.  She was soon great at coming down on her bum too.  And she never fell.

Sienna One Year

To Sienna, On Your First Birthday

To Sienna,

My little beauty, I can not believe you are already a year old!!!  Where has that year gone?!

I vividly remember the day you were born like it was yesterday, and the amazing feeling of lying skin-to-skin with you.  I felt so incredibly bonded to you, and still do.  We have a special relationship you and I.  From only days old, you struggled to settle for anyone but me.  You spent a lot of time in my arms, while you were still light enough to hold for any length of time.  I would rock you back and forth and you found a way of nuzzling in to my chest for comfort.  The hours spent constantly feeding, chaining me to the sofa!  Those early weeks are slowly fading from my memory, but I never want to forget how you wanted to be nowhere but with me.  Especially when you’re a teenager and the opposite will be true!

sienna christening

Sienna’s Christening

On Saturday 5th March, we celebrated Sienna’s christening.

We spent a while trying to figure out what we wanted to do for her christening.  When Ella was christened, we had a big party.  It was 29th December and most people were off work the next day.  We had about 70 people there, hired a venue, and had a big do!  I’ll be honest, I didn’t really enjoy it.  I found it all a bit stressful hosting that many people.  Though I did really enjoy the pub after the party!!

This time, we were moving house only a few weeks before the christening, and I just couldn’t face up to organising a big party.  There was definitely enough going on!  We decided to keep it just immediate family – our parents, brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews.  And they all came back to our house for a party after.

Sienna at 20 Weeks

It occurred to me that I’ve not done a Sienna focused update for a while now, so I looked back over my blog, and Sienna was 10 weeks old when I last did one!!

She’s now 20 weeks old, so this seems a perfect opportunity to do an update on how she’s getting on!

She really is a different baby in some ways from that ten week old baby.  And in others, she’s exactly the same.  I can already see she is going to have a completely different personality to her older sister.  Ella was such a happy content baby, and rarely cried.  Sienna, on the other hand, can scream!!!  She definitely knows how to cry!  In her early weeks, she did a lot of screaming.  But it has really settled down now.  Her crying is usually tiredness related.  She really hates feeling tired.  But I can now quickly pick up on her tired cues.  She’ll rub her eyes mainly.  So, as soon as the hands go to the eyes, I put her down for a nap.  And getting that moment right usually means I can put her down in the cot awake, and she will fall asleep unassisted.  If you miss that window, then she does sometimes need a bit more settling, a bit of a cuddle or some music on to calm her down.  She also loves to snuggle a muslin to help settle her, and even cover her face with it.  This is particularly handy when out and about.  It’s almost magic how putting the muslin over her face sends her straight off to sleep!

Sienna four weeks

Sienna’s First Four Weeks

Sienna is four weeks old today, and I thought I’d take the opportunity to look back on how those four weeks have been.

We came home the same day Sienna was born and, in some strange way, it almost felt like life just got back to normal!

As most newborns do, Sienna spent her first few days mainly sleeping. And when she wasn’t sleeping, she was feeding!  Sometimes that feeding felt like it was nonstop.  I spent hours with Sienna attached to me.  I struggled with supply with Ella, so knew the right thing to do was go with Sienna’s demands so that my supply increased.
